Data Protection and Responsibilities

Applied Post (AP) is a data processor and processes data with respect to AP services. AP maintains technical, physical and administrative security measures in our internal policies which are designed to provide protection for data against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure and alteration. AP uses independent external auditors to verify our security measures for applicable privacy, security and compliance control standards.

What Types of Client Data AP Collects and Where We Get It From

Our primary business is to provide marketing data to clients in Canada. The data products that we create, use and share with clients are comprised of anonymized, geo-demographic at the postal code or dissemination area (DA) in Canada. AP does not collect, use or disclose any personally identifiable information (PII) in the creation of these data products.

Data Sources

Applied Post obtains privacy-compliant anonymized data from selected data partners such as the latest census data, current economic indicators, postcensal estimates from federal and provincial governments, immigration statistics, economic data such as building permits, survey data, life stage data, certain location data and business-to-business data. This data may have been originally collected either online or offline.

Applied Post obtains anonymized data from trusted third-party data partners that collect data from location-enabled applications on mobile devices and ad exchange platforms. Specifically, the data elements are device ID, advertising identifiers along with a date, time and latitude/longitude coordinates for each observation. For any location data that could identify an individual, the data elements are adjusted or aggregated to render them anonymous. For clarity, the collection and use of data from trusted third-party data partners, their websites and applications are subject to those data providers’ privacy policies and legal terms.

The location-enabled mobile data is collected only if permission is provided by the individual. Consumers can easily change their level of location sharing overall or for individual mobile apps at any time via their privacy settings on their mobile devices.

AP endeavors to work with providers, clients, and partners that provide disclosures to their own users regarding their use of data for marketing, interest-based advertising purposes and available privacy controls. AP will only be able to directly apply controls to the data that it possesses and manages.

Client Data

We may receive the personally identifiable information (PII) of clients’ customers for analytic or modelling purposes on behalf of the client. This use of the PII is strictly limited to the purpose identified by the client and its use, disclosure and retention are governed by contractual provisions as well as Canadian privacy laws.

AP limits personal information collection (whether directly or through the use of third parties) to the specific data reasonably useful for the purpose for which it was collected.

Children’s Privacy

AP services do not knowingly collect, use or disclose personal information from children under the age of 13 or as otherwise identified. 

Retaining and Deleting Personal Data

AP only retains or discloses personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected. AP has policies in place that govern the retention of personal information so it will be kept only, if necessary, to fulfill its intended purpose or to satisfy legal requirements.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change this privacy policy at any time. An effective date is referenced at the end of this policy. This privacy policy and the policies outlined herein are not intended to, nor do they create, any contractual or their legal rights in or on behalf of any person or entity.
